Sinclair October Events
Oct. has arrived, and with it the season of Halloween. As with September, Sinclair will be hosting a wide variety of events throughout the month, ranging from seasonal fun to thoughtful discussions and plenty of opportunities for students to connect with the community and grow as an individual. Here are just a few examples of events that will be happening at Sinclair this Oct.
Fall Mixer: Student Club & Organizations Fair
Sinclair has a wide range of student clubs and organizations that are made and led by students and those who want to join one but are unsure where to start will definitely want to check out the Fall Mixer. Representatives from all the student clubs and organizations will be present, giving students the chance to see what Sinclair has to offer and learn about the various groups they can join. There will also be free popcorn, outdoor games and more, so whether you want to make new friends or just have some fun, the Fall Mixer is the event to attend.

The Fall Mixer will take place on Oct. 8 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will be held in the area outside of Building 10 on the Dayton campus.
FotoFocus Biennial: The Long View
Exhibits featuring the works of artists Katria Foster and Emily Wiethorn will be on display at Sinclair for most of October, and there will also be a virtual discussion on Zoom taking place on October 9 from noon to 1:00 p.m., where the two artists will talk about their work. Katria Foster’s exhibit is called “Domestic Affair” and reflects on themes of control, manipulation and ambiguity from the female perspective. Emily Wiethorn’s exhibit is called “The Death of You and Me” and is an examination of memory, suffering, and trauma and how one tells their story as a survivor of sexual assault and abduction. While these are heavy topics, that only makes it more important to talk about them openly.
The exhibitions will be on display until Oct. 26, and the galleries are located on the fourth floor of Building 13 on the Dayton campus. The galleries are free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays.
Sinclair Theatre presents Little Women

This October, Sinclair Theatre will be putting on a production of Little Women, a fresh take on a literary classic. Staring the March sisters against the backdrop of the Civil War, they find themselves at a crossroads facing a world defined by gender, classism, and personal tragedy.
The production is about an hour and a half long and will be performed at the Black Box Theatre in Building 2 on the Dayton campus. There will be performances at 7 p.m. on Oct 9, 10, 13, 16, and 17 and in addition there will be ASL Interpreted performances at 2 p.m. on Oct 11 and 7 p.m. on Oct 15. Tickets are $10 and must be purchased online.
Coming Out Day: Discussion Panel
October 11 is National Coming Out Day, and in recognition of this, Sinclair is hosting a panel conversation on October 13. Those who attend will have the opportunity to hear from members of the campus community and share in meaningful discussions exploring identity, belonging and authenticity within the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a great chance to reflect and learn more about oneself and others.
The Discussion Panel will take place on Oct. 13 in Room 2334 of Building 2 on the Dayton campus. The panel will begin at noon and end at around 1:00 p.m.
Student Life Presents: Trunk or Treat in Halloweentown
Shrouded in mystery, the Trunk or Treat is just one way the Sinclair community will be celebrating Halloween. The event will take place from Oct. 28 to Oct. 29, but further details have yet to be announced, so students will want to keep an eye on the SCSCOH website and related social media channels for updates.

Other Halloween-themed events at Sinclair include the Creation Station at the library, as well as Hidden Eats and Treats.
The Creation Station will be in the Dayton campus library during operating hours from Oct 12 to Oct 16 and will give students the chance to utilize spooky creativity to craft their own Halloween-styled bookmark.
Hidden Eats and Treats meanwhile, will have a large number of treat bags hidden throughout Buildings 7, 8, and 10 on the Dayton Campus on October 29, so students will want to keep their eyes open. The event starts at 8 a.m. and once the hidden treat bags are gone, they’re gone.
