Applications are now open for the seventh annual Dayton Battle of the Bands, a series of winter concert competitions that allow local bands and musicians to perform at a premier music venue, reach new audiences, connect with fellow artists and network with music industry professionals. All kinds of musical acts, from bands to solo artists and everything in between, are encouraged to apply, as all genres of music are welcomed, with the sole exception of cover bands, as the Battle of the Bands is intended to feature original local music.

The Dayton Battle of the Bands strives for a diverse finale and range of performers, it is open to musical acts of any genre and type that write and perform original music. It is also an all-ages competition and as such the performances, language and attire must be appropriate for an all ages audience. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Applications opened on Sept 21 and will close on Oct 25, with the selected bands and artists announced on Nov 23. To be eligible to apply, the musician or group must have at least 15 to 20 minutes of original music to perform, be available for the applicable competition and performance dates and live within 35 miles of downtown Dayton. Applying for the Battle of the Bands is free and applicants don’t need a website or music video to apply, as those fields are optional and included for convenience.

After the participating musicians and groups have been announced, six weekly musical battles will take place in 2027 from Jan 21 to Feb 25, with the competition finale being on March 13. Applicants must be available to perform during these battles and they must disclose all known scheduling conflicts in their application.
The Dayton Battle of the Bands will make reasonable efforts to accommodate conflicts but if an applicant is selected, they will be expected to be available on their assigned date for the competition. To remain eligible to advance, each act must be available to perform in the finale on March 13.
Dayton Battle of the Bands aims to provide participants with tangible value and genuine opportunities, not just “exposure” or filler prizes. The exact prizes for the 2027 season are still being confirmed, but the prizes for the 2026 season included the chance to perform in The Brightside’s Ballroom, local press coverage and promotion across various platforms, professional photography and video recordings, cash prizes, discounts from participating stores and more, with the finalists and winners being eligible for greater prizes but everyone walking away with something worthwhile.
