As the summer begins, so too does the summer movie season. After the success of “Michael,” “Project Hail Mary” and “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” it remains to be seen if the box office will keep its momentum all year. Here are a few upcoming 2026 summer movies that are worth keeping an eye on.
Disclosure Day
“Disclosure Day” is an upcoming science fiction film about how the world would react if irrefutable proof of extraterrestrials was revealed to the world, and the existential implications.
Early reviews have called the film a “towering home run” for Steven Spielberg, who was the director and original story creator. They have also praised star Emily Blunt’s performance, heading a high-profile cast, and David Koepp’s “X-FILES-meets-The Bible script.”
Disclosure Day is scheduled to be released on June 12.
The Death of Robin Hood

“The Death of Robin Hood” is an upcoming dark thriller that is based on the 17th century ballad of the same name. It aims to be a darker interpretation of the Robin Hood story, where an aging Robin Hood comes to terms with his violent past.
While grimmer than the more uplifting versions the film may potentially be closer to the real person behind the legend, as very little is known about the historical Robin Hood.
“The Death of Robin Hood” is scheduled to be released on June 19, and was written and directed by Michael Sarnoski. It stars Hugh Jackman, who was also one of the film’s producers.
Toy Story 5
“Toy Story 5” is the fifth main installment of the Toy Story franchise, an iconic series which began in 1995 with Pixar’s debut film “Toy Story.”

The first three films in the series were met with high praise, while “Toy Story 4” had mixed reviews, leaving many curious about whether Pixar will be able to replicate their earlier success. The story involves the classic cast of toys clashing with a new tablet device named Lilypad, voiced by Greta Lee.
“Toy Story 5” is scheduled to be released on June 19, and was written and directed by Andrew Stanton. Most cast members from the previous films are reprising their roles, including Tom Hanks as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear.
The Odyssey
“The Odyssey” is an upcoming action fantasy film based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic of the same name, and takes place after the Trojan War as portrayed by Greek mythology.

It was written and directed by Christopher Nolan, whose filmography over the years has been consistently well received by critics and audiences alike. He is most well known for revitalizing the popularity of “Batman” with the “Dark Knight” trilogy, but other successful films of his include 2000’s “Memento,” 2010’s “Inception,” and 2023’s “Oppenheimer.”
The Odyssey is scheduled to be released on July 17 and features an all-star cast, with Matt Damon as Odysseus.
I Want Your Sex
“I Want Your Sex” blends the genres of comedy and thriller, centering around an artist (Olivia Wilde) who chooses her new employee (Cooper Hoffman) as her sexual muse in an increasingly dark plot. The film is a satire that aims to explore the repression of sexuality and how younger generations express this.
It premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival in January where it received a largely positive reception from critics, and is scheduled for a wider release on July 31.
