Students who visit Sinclair College’s library coffee shop may recognize Jesse Peacock behind the counter working as manager. But few may know about the creativity and previous experiences Peacock uses daily to fulfill her role.
Peacock has been working as manager of the coffee shop for around six months. Previously, she was a banquet chef working in Building 12. Peacock said she saw the job opportunity and felt as if she could run the location more efficiently while providing a better experience for customers.
Food, beverages and hospitality play a major role in Peacock’s life and why she continued to pursue positions like these. Because of this passion, many of the drinks on the coffee shop’s menu are specialty drinks Peacock has made herself.
“All these are my own recipes, and we sell probably 75% of our drinks off that menu right there,” she said.

Not only has she found success with her drinks, but Peacock said her recipes allow the coffee shop to create a one-of-a-kind experience for students, faculty and visitors.
Creating new drinks and menu items is one aspect of the job she enjoys, but there is something she likes more: interacting with the customers.
“My favorite part is probably getting the customers, having them give me the feedback that they’re enjoying everything that I’m doing,” Peacock said.
When customers provide positive feedback, it motivates Peacock to continue creating new drinks and putting her best effort into the coffee shop. She said she loves knowing students enjoy her drinks and are happy to come back.

As with any job, there are difficult aspects that Peacock encounters. For her, one of the most challenging things about running the coffee shop is working with other employees.
“The most challenging part is having employees that actually show up for their shifts,” she said.
In addition to wanting her employees to show up to work, Peacock said she wishes students knew how capable her employees are at making drinks. While some customers may only come to the coffee shop when she is there working, she said she has trained her employees and they can fulfill the customers’ orders.
“I’ve trained them myself,” Peacock said. “I wish that most students would know that my employees can also make the drinks.”

Peacock wants students to have patience with her and the employees when ordering at the coffee shop. During busy times, she knows students may become anxious, but she encourages them to have faith in the workers.
Working at the coffee shop hasn’t just allowed Peacock to gain management experience, but also to enhance her skills as a barista. Peacock said her previous job as a bartender helped her when learning to make drinks at the college.
From developing new drinks to interacting with customers, Peacock puts her heart into working at the SCC Library coffee shop. Students can enjoy her work the next time they visit the coffee shop, whether it be a regular cup of coffee or one of her specialty drinks.
