Paramedic student aids in emergency

A Sinclair Community College paramedic student tended to an Aramark worker who passed out in the Tartan Marketplace on Tuesday, Nov. 3, until emergency medical technicians arrived, according to eyewitnesses.

Tommy Lee Dixon was not on duty and was possibly getting lunch when he passed out at 1:15 p.m., according to coworker Kim Watkins. Paramedic student Jesse McPherson was nearby when Dixon fell unconscious to the floor.

“I’m a paramedic student and just assessed him, check his breathing and pulse,” McPherson said.

EMTs arrived approximately five minutes after Dixon dropped, according to eyewitnesses. EMTs tended to Dixon and rolled him away on a gurney a few minutes later. Dixon was responsive on the gurney.

McPherson fielded thanks from officers and EMTs as they left the scene.

It was not immediately clear what hospital Dixon would be taken to. Sinclair Police Capt. Ron Adams said the hospital was not determined at the scene because it was still possible that the EMTs would be rerouted on their way.
