Things may be heating up outside, but homebodies have plenty to keep them busy. Feature-length films and TV series are just a click away thanks to the many streaming services out there. Here are some of the best of the bunch coming out this month.
Beverly Hills: Axel F, July 3 (Netflix)
It might have taken 30 years but the “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise is back with a vengeance. Judging from the reviews that have come in, the movie is another hit for the resurgent Eddie Murphy. A must-watch for comedy lovers everywhere.
The Monk and the Gun, July 5 (Hulu)
It isn’t often that a movie from Bhutan comes to streaming but when it does you know you’re in for a good time. “The Monk and The Gun” has won acclaim with critics from Kathmandu to Los Angeles for good reason. It’s Director Pawo Choyning Dorji’s sophomore effort following his Oscar-nominated “Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom”. His follow-up has been described as a satire with deep themes. Cinema lovers are in for a good time if it’s anything like Dorji’s debut.
Kite Man: Hell Yeah, July 18 (Max)
This spinoff of the well-received “Harley Quinn” puts two b-list villains in the protag seat. Kite Man and the Golden Glider are hardly who comes to mind when you think of Batman’s extensive rogue gallery. Which is why their upcoming time in the spotlight is so tantalizing. Creator Justin Halpern, showrunner for “Abbot Elementary” and “Harley Quinn”, has assembled a great team. Expect plenty of laughs and hijinks just like its mother series.
Those About to Die, July 18 (Peacock)
Anthony Hopkins leads a star-studded cast that lovers of history and historical fiction are bound to love. The glamor of Rome’s emperors, the brutality of gladiatorial combat, a script by “Saving Private Ryan” writer Robert Rodat– what’s not to love? If it sticks the landing expect people around the globe to be talking about this show.
