
Events held on campus can be a great way for Tartans to connect, and there is always something happening. Below are three events that will be worth the time to check out.

Wind Symphony OMEA Conference Preview Concert
Are you tight on money? Gather up the whole family and come enjoy this free concert.
Led by conductor Michael Berning, the concert is open to all students, faculty and the public. It will be held in Building 2 in Blair Hall on Jan. 25, from 3 p.m-4:30 p.m..

Book read: “Poverty, by America”
This event can be joined in person or by Zoom. Matthew Desmond’s book will be read Feb. 4, from noon to 1 p.m..
Interested participants should head to Building 11 Room 324 to register, pick a preferred location and grab a copy of the book. “Poverty, by America” aims to open readers’ eyes to how poverty in America doesn’t just “happen.” It invites people to question their built-in assumptions and stereotypical thoughts of poverty.
Black Unity Conference: A history of hope in the making
The Black Unity Conference will once again be held at Sinclair this year. The event will begin with a movie screening on the evening of Feb. 6 and resume at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 7.

The conference will examine Black history in Dayton through the lens of the 2025 book “The History of Hope in the Making: The Legacy of African Americans in Dayton.”
Breakfast and door prizes will be available, and this event is sure to attract anyone who wants to dive deeper to honor African American history. Registration is required and can be found on Sinclair’s event calendar.
