The Sinclair College sports program has been away since COVID-19 struck and has not been revived ever since. It has been away for so long that many new students are not even aware that there has ever been a sports program.
Considering how big intercollegiate sports are in America, it is safe to say that Sinclair is missing the thrills of college sports. We sought students’ opinions on whether the program should return.
Asher Lucous
“I am very pro-college sports, and I would love to have the program back. We used to have a great basketball team,” Lucous said.
Lucous spends his spare time assisting with work at the school’s gymnasium. He expressed his excitement at the thought of getting the sports program back, adding that it was a great way to get students together and a great source of financial aid.
Maryanne Fadairo
Maryanne Fadario is a health sciences major and has only been at Sinclair for a semester now. Fadairo said she enjoys watching basketball and would love to have it back at Sinclair.
“I don’t play any sports, but I think it’s too boring around here. Binging back the sports program will help make it a little fun,” Fadairo said.
She believes it would not only make the college exciting but also help foster a tightly knit student community at Sinclair.
Penny Stewart
Penny Stewart, a volunteer at the Our American Journey classroom, is also in favor of bringing back the sports program–but only with proper planning and funding so as not to face the same fate as it did when COVID-19 struck.
“The idea of reinstating the sports program is a tricky one for me because it requires a lot of funding and planning. I think it would do a lot for the college students in terms of financial aid support as well as fostering a sense of community for not only Sinclair students, but people in Dayton as a whole,” Stewart said.
