Chris Bridges, former Student Leadership manager has been replaced by Mortenous A. Johnson.

“I loved my time spent as a part of Student Leadership,” Bridges said. “It was a great experience.”

Bridges left his position at Sinclair on Tuesday, Nov. 6 to become an associate dean at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania.

“I’m really excited about being a part of the student life and leadership there [at Mansfield],” Bridges said. “I like being connected to students and helping to be a guide through college.”

In his new position, Bridges said that he will be in charge of orientation, emergency response and helping students by guiding them through their college experience.

Bridges said that he will miss the students and staff that he worked with.

“I learned a lot by working here (Sinclair), how they function and how a community college works,” Bridges said.

Bridges feels that with being replaced by Johnson it will be a good change and that although he is not sure of all that will come with the change, he is aware that people have different leadership styles that can lead to success.

“Moving from one management position to another for the good of the institution is always viewed in a postive way,” Johnson said.

Johnson started at Sinclair as a coordinator for Minority Student Retention and has been a manager of many different positions at Sinclair. Johnson was a manager for the Office of Pre-College Programs before becoming the Student Leadership Manager.

“Not only do I like it here at Sinclair, but I have had many opportunities to grow and develop,” Johnson said.

Johnson’s creative skills and love for management are what he believes has enabled him to be open to the opportunity he has been given by being a part of Sinclair.

“Everyday is different,” Johnson said. “Being open to each day being different is a great opportunity.”

Johnson believes that Student Leadership can benefit students by helping to shape their experience in the workforce, increase their transfer ability, and develop soft skills and integration of leadership qualities into academic discipline.
