Sinclair twins skate at Kings Island

Brooke and Beth Johnson-Johns appear to be typical Sinclair Community
College students.

But they have a hidden talent.

Brooke and Beth are both ice performers at Kings Island performing in Snoopy Rocks! on Ice.

“We do three shows a day, every day but Wednesday, and four shows on Saturdays,” Brooke said.  “The show generally runs 30-35 minutes.”

“Brooke plays Linus and I play Sally, and we both perform as ensemble,” Beth said. “Ensemble is basically, the backup dancer to a singer in a concert.”

Linus and Sally are characters from the cartoon Peanuts created by Charles Schultz.

“It is difficult skating with the costume on because it distorts your vision. You have to look through the mouth to see so it’s a little difficult,” Beth said. “ But even with the costume on Brooke can still do an axel, which I think is pretty impressive.”

The twins started out at Kings Island in a show called Endless Summer, which featured the characters from Scooby Doo.

“We were lucky this year because most of the cast was returning from last year’s show,” Brooke said.

Building chemistry on the ice with the other performers all depends on repetition and practice, according to Brooke.

“We started ice skating at 8, but initially we were artistic roller skaters at age 2. From that, we made the decision to transfer over to ice skating because there is more you can do with ice skating than artistic roller skating,” Brooke said.

The twins have a passion for skating, but both expressed that college has reduced their time to ice skate.

“When we were in high school, we skated for about two hours a day. But, since we started college it has been a lot less,” Brooke said.

The twins used to compete, but due to specific rules and regulations they cannot compete and perform in shows.

“Performing in shows is a lot more fun than competing because you can be yourself. I like to see the reaction of the audience and it helps you break out of your shell,” Brooke said.

While the twins know that their education is a top priority, they do have aspirations to perform on a bigger stage.

“I would love to go and travel with Disney on ice, or Holiday on ice and travel all around and do shows,” Brooke said.

This is their third year performing at King’s Island and the Snoopy Rocks! on Ice show runs from June 4-Aug. 14.
