Alexander dominates in Pride win

DSC_1424The Sinclair Pride men’s basketball team defeated Southern State Community College, 103-89, in a dominating performance by sophomore forward British Alexander on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Down by five points at halftime, the Pride opened the second half with a dunk by Alexander and took the lead for good with 11 minutes remaining after a three point shot by Damon Dillard.

“We never really got anything in transition (in the first half),” said Pride Head Coach Jeff Price. “That’s a key part of our game and once we started getting in transition, that really started to loosen things up for us.”

British Alexander led the Pride with 29 points, 17 rebounds, six assists and four blocks. The Pride expanded their lead in the second half when the 6-foot-6 Alexander took over at center.

“British (Alexander) has the ability to play many different positions for us,” Price said. “The versatility with this team is when we went big, we scored with some bigs and when we went small, we scored. We play a 40-minute ball game and I think the last seven minutes we wore them down.”

Guard De’Angelo Gates tied for the team lead in assists with six and scored 19 points in only 23 minutes of play as he was in foul trouble most of the night. Point guard Kevin Vest chipped in 13 points and center Terrence Lang collected five rebounds and two blocks.

The Pride’s next game is against No. 5 ranked Mott Community College on Nov. 14 in Michigan.
