Dayton offers many events and specials to celebrate Mother’s Day, this year falling on May 10. Below are five unique ways to celebrate and thank the moms who make everything possible.
Huber Heights Marigold Festival
Running from the evening of May 8 to 2 p.m. on May 10, this weekend festival will bring together artisans, food trucks, games and live entertainment for the whole family. A Car Cruise-in will take place on May 9 from 1-5 p.m. along with a beer garden and student art showcase.
The event is free to attend at the Eichelberger Amphitheater at The Heights.

Pre-Mother’s Day Soul Jam Dinner and Concert
Held at Deja Vu Hall in Trotwood on May 9, Zip City Entertainment and HRJ Media present an evening of food and live music to elevate the soul. They promise “a feast for the senses” and invite guests to enjoy dinner and a concert featuring Melrose Eve, Hubb’s Groove Band and more.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. and music beginning at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $60.
El Meson Brunch Buffet

Brunch is a quintessential part of Mother’s Day, and El Meson in West Carrollton may be striving to redefine it with their variety of buffet options. Starting at 11 a.m. on May 10, their menu will include Spanish lamb with sherry and peppers, Manchego scalloped potatoes, mixed green and fruit salads, and a waffle station to mix and match toppings. There will also be award-winning cocktails, desserts and special options for kids.
Tickets are $48 for adults and $23 for children 12 and under. The restaurant will be limiting groups to a 90-minute table time due to anticipated high demand.
From Jollof to Ceviche: A Mother’s Day Feast
Today’s Table and Seli Foods invite families to gather for a multicourse, multiethnic culinary experience at Spark Fairborn on May 10. The menu combines their West African and Latin specialities, including shrimp ceviche, chicken jollof rice with Ghanaian salad, and baked Ecuadorian chicken with fried plantains.
Lunch will run from noon to 3 p.m. with tickets starting at $17.85.
DIY Candles, Canvases and Crafts
Painting With a Twist, located at 8010 McEwen Road in Dayton, is inviting mothers and children 7 and older to a freeform painting event. Unlike other parties at this and similar studios, there will not be formal instruction for what to create, but will instead allow visitors to draw inspiration from works in their gallery. A staff artist will be available to help if requested.
Painting With a Twist encourages patrons to bring food and beverages with them. Prices vary by choice of canvas size.
