Produced by Students, For Students

National Walking Day, created in 2007 by the American Heart Association, is observed this year on the first Wednesday of April. The day is meant to bring attention to physical activity and encourage people to include walking in their daily routines.

Walking is often described by health organizations as a simple form of exercise that may support heart health, improve mood and help with focus. The day is also used to highlight how much time people spend sitting and the possible benefits of moving more throughout the day. Even short walks are commonly linked to lower stress level and better overall well being.

At Sinclair College, students across all three campuses are being encouraged to take part in National Walking Day on April 1. Participants are asked to walk during the day as part of the event.

Students can also submit photos through the event page for a chance to receive “Sinclair Swag.” Photo submissions are part of the campus effort to document participation across different locations.

National Walking Day continues to be recognized by schools, workplaces and community groups across the country. Events like the one at Sinclair reflect how the day is observed at a local level while still being part of a larger national effort to bring attention to physical activity.
