Leaves shifting hues and making canopies mimic catching fire, chillier days remedied by warm  pumpkin lattes, curling up on the couch with a kitschy witchy film before Halloween. Fall is a  fantastic transition from summer to winter.

Piper Blakely is an education major aiming to become a third-grade school teacher. When autumn hits, you can find her enjoying a pumpkin chai latte, carving pumpkins, or browsing through local pumpkin patches. Though she loves Halloween, she has a soft spot for Thanksgiving,  which leads to Christmas. “I just love food, and I love getting presents,” Blakely said.

She recommended Tom’s Maze in Germantown, where students can navigate their way through  a corn maze and reward themselves with warm cider and fun fall-themed concessions after they  find their way out.

This year, Tom’s Maze is celebrating their 29th anniversary and is a fall staple in Southwestern  Ohio. It is an award-winning corn maze that features puzzles, various concessions and even  campfire rentals for families and large groups. Each year, the maze is cut into a specific pattern.  This year, the maze commemorates America’s 250th birthday.

Alicia Marie Moss is a communication major. Her excitement towards the fall season does not  stick to festivities and instead she wants to focus on the importance of finishing strong during the  fall semester.

So far, Moss has enjoyed the fall activities being hosted on Sinclair’s Dayton Campus. She partook in decorating pumpkins at the Sinclair Harvest Festival and mentioned that her church  was also planning on engaging in some seasonal fun.

As much as it is exciting to watch the leaves shift from green to red and start making plans to attend Halloween parties, midterms are an essential part of fall at Sinclair.

As students settle into the academic year, staying focused and attending classes remain important. Moss said she has noticed students falling asleep during one of her classes and encouraged them to stay engaged. “They should help out. Make sure they go to their classes because I see some of them laying down,” Moss said.

Amisha Dahal is an international student from Nepal who is majoring in Computer Science. “I  like fall the most,” Dahal said. With cooling temperatures, she enjoys cozying up at home with  food and staying in.

While she enjoys venturing into town at night and taking in festive decor, this season is  especially rough. Dashain and Tihar are two major festivals that take place in Nepal in the  autumn. Dashain is currently taking place from Oct. 11 to 25.

While kids in the United States are gearing up to trick-or-treat and pick out their costumes,  children in Nepal swing from bamboo swings called Linge Ping and celebrating the religious  holiday with their families.

“This weather especially is making me homesick,” Dahal said.
