Although Dayton houses the largest campus, it is not the only one Sinclair College has. There are two others located in Centerville and Mason. These campuses might not have as much space or as many classes, but they still have their own personality and benefits for students.

Bob Noss, operations manager for the Centerville campus, took time out of his day to explain the inner workings of the campus.

The Centerville campus is the closer of the two to the Dayton campus. It is also the second largest of the three campuses and has quite a few great amenities.

These vary significantly from an expanding concert hall to a $1.3 million renovation for a new kitchen. The Centerville campus also uses these amenities to engage with their community.

Across the Centerville campus there are several places for students to make use of a multitude of services.

They range in both size and use from a small gym to a full kitchen. These are excellent for getting students to make the best use of their time there.

“In the past year, we had the new picnic area out there. We’re right now putting in a full cooking kitchen. That project starts in this fall, putting on a new roof. We’re having building classrooms. We just opened up four labs upstairs, phlebotomy and pharmacology, as well as nursing, chemistry, biology labs. Next door is our rec area that we’ve opened up kind of this summer in a soft opening, and then we’re going to do more of a blowout kind of thing in the fall for Welcome Week,” Noss said.

“It’s really kind of a hidden gem in this area, and I think people are getting to know it a little bit better.”

These places are also very useful when it comes to engaging with the community. The Centerville campus is not a very well-known one. They have been trying to expand both their notoriety and student body. One method they do this with is by renting out their spaces.

The campus already has a concert hall that seats 800 people, and is flanked by gyms that can be opened up to increase the potential seating further. This provides an amazing opportunity for the wider Centerville community to rent it out for events.

“We rent out our gyms constantly in our auditorium. We just had a big concert in here. Centerville Pops had about 1,000 people here last night. We rent it out every night for local high school and grade school basketball teams that are coming in here. It’s really kind of a hidden gem in this area, and I think people are getting to know it a little bit better,” Noss Said.

A particularly prized addition is a fully furnished, working kitchen prepared to be staffed to provide food for the entire campus. The kitchen is prepared to feed not only those on campus, but attendees of events as well.

“It’ll open up [the] cafe area a little bit more, so we’re going to hope to have lunches for students to buy similar to downtown campus. They have a full cooking kitchen down the hall. They’re making strides to do that and open it up to all sorts of different activities and events. We just had a graduation party here on Sunday, so it’s just about anything if you want to come out and do something,” Noss said.

This space is also available to rent, and will open up the Centerville campus to even more types of events that can help the campus engage with their community even more.

While Dayton’s sister campuses may not be as large, they are certainly just as impressive and accommodating for every student, faculty and community members.
