As summer semester is full steam ahead towards the end many may start to feel pressured. Sometimes this can lead to feeling burnt out. The Clarion spoke with Emily Hudson on burnout and what is the best course of action to take.
The first course of action is to recognize that you are reaching or heading to a state of being burnt out. This includes things like “feeling unlike yourself, feeling like you can’t stick to a schedule, falling behind in class, and not enjoying things you normally do” are the biggest symptoms Hudson described.
The next step is working towards recovering from the symptoms of burnout. This is sometimes the hardest thing to do on your own. So please feel free to reach out to people for help; including the counseling staff on the 4th floor of building ten.
However some of the tips given to The Clarion were, “if you are not having a good amount of time management, try to create more time to do things, set a time to do things. Put in some supports to balance things out. Time with people, hobbies, and backing out to balance times. Be gentle with yourself, and always be gentle with yourself because we tend to get swept up.”
Finally once recovered it is best to try and avoid what brought you to the state in the first place. The best way to do this is to continue to make time for yourself and everything you need to do. Always taking enough time to get what is needed done without overbearing pressure whenever possible.
It is free to set up counseling if you need it in Building 10, Room 424. You can either go there in person, set something up online, or call them at 937-512-3032.
