What are the most popular Thanksgiving side dishes in the U.S.?

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and the question came up. What are the most popular thanksgiving dishes in the U.S.?

According to KHOU 11, what are the most popular Thanksgiving dishes served in all 50 states. A total of 2,100 Americans from all 50 states were surveyed and gave their thoughts on what is popular.

In first place, Mashed potatoes are favored at 94%, with Turkey and Gravy at second and third at 84%. At fourth place sits Macaroni and cheese with 83% And at fifth sits bread rolls at 83%.
Turkey is the favorite in two states which are Virginia and Nevada. Most Americans prefer Thanksgiving sides and desserts, like pie. In the southern states, sweet potato pie is sought after in homes, and in the Midwest states like Missouri and Ohio, pumpkin pie is at the top of the list.

Other Midwest states, Kansas, Nebraska, and Wisconsin, have glazed carrots as their favorites.

Heading into the least favorite Thanksgiving side dishes around the country, at number one comes Candied yams, with 45% of people disliking the side dish. The number two spot comes in sweet potato pie with 46% of disproval. At number three, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows comes in at
47% disapproval.

Number four is Brussels sprouts with 52%, and number five is cranberry sauce with 56% of the Disproval of Thanksgiving sides. People all over the country have given their thoughts on what is popular and what is not popular during this time of year.

Looking at the state of Ohio specifically, its main likes may differ from the other 49 states. BetOhio.Com looked at what major cities searched that year in terms of trending thanksgiving food items. Going back to Nov. 1-30 of 2021 on google trends, there can be evidence of what Ohioans searched for during that time.

Between those dates’ items like stuffing, green bean casserole, Brussels sprouts, Mac and Cheese, mashed potatoes, candied yams, and cranberry sauce was the most searched food item that year. Stuffing took the top spot that year, with 24% of Ohioans searching the items followed by mac and cheese at 23% of searches.

Tied for third place were mashed potatoes and green bean casserole at 20% and sweet potato casserole at fifth with 13%. Going by cities in Ohio, Cincinnati and Columbus both had mac and cheese in their top searches with 25%. In Cleveland, it was stuffing that came in at 28% of the searched and both cities of Toledo and Dayton favored veggies and green bean casserole at 28% and 22%.
