Sinclair’s Talk on Anti-Racism

On Thursday, Sept. 9, a talk on Anti-Racism took place via Zoom, led by Jared Cutler; the talk lasted from 3:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m. Anti-Racism is the practice of opposing racism and promoting racial tolerance.

Three points were brought up by Cutler as the presentation got started:

  1. People are needed now more than ever within these last 50-years.
  2. Many will never never know everything, so keep researching and learning more about how to help make a difference.
  3. Everyone has already helped in some way; it just depends what side has been helped.

Cutler mentioned that being educated is also a way to help out. To listen and learn that there aren’t two sides to racism in the past and in the present. To also be educated are terms like “critical race theory” and “whiteness” can help. Being educated can also show that racism isn’t a political issue, it’s a moral issue.

When taking steps to become anti-racist many need to monitor their language and attitudes. Finally, take action and spread what has been learned from talks and tell others to come to talks and learn more about anti-racism. Having conversations, constantly learning, and self-reflection are great ways to make an impact.
