All of Sinclair’s sports were suspended through the 2020-2021 year due to COVID. With the start of the new school year, the sports have once again been suspended through the 2021-2022 year due to COVID. With Jeff Price gone, the athletic director spot was left open and Jack Giambrone volunteered to be the temporary athletic director once school sports resume.
“President Johnson and the Board of Directors will talk about this topic after the major issues like COVID; how can we bring students back on campus, how do we control cost, and how do we get through graduation, but sports is on the list,” said Giambrone.
There are a lot of factors at play when it comes to evaluating whether or not to bring back sports and other activities. For example, there is the value versus the cost of bringing sports back. Some teams require fewer players and therefore could possibly be brought back sooner.
“We have to look at what sports are still being played in the conference,” said Giambrone. “Sinclair is a member of the OCCAC (Ohio Community College Athletic Conference). Maybe that helps us decide what sports get brought back.”
The Board of Directors will certainly have a lot to discuss.
“When and if sports come back they will follow strict safety guidelines and protocols outlined by the college,” said Giambrone.
Students will have to wait and see what happens with Sinclair’s sports program. Hopefully, sports come back next year and bring the Sinclair community together.
