Music Recitals and Scholarship Auditions

Quarterly and graduation recitals gives music students a chance to show how much progress they have made at Sinclair Community College, Cynthia Gaston, student, said in an e-mail.

“The purpose of the graduation recital is to show the faculty, friends and family how much progress we’ve made in our years at Sinclair,” Gaston said. “It is our chance to showcase our abilities.”

Gaston is one of 15 Music major to graduate this year and play at the 2009-2010 graduation recitals. They have been broken up into five groups of three and are scheduled to play on five different dates starting May 25, 26, 27, June 1 and 7. All recitals will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be played in Blair Hall.

Each student is required to play five quarterly recitals plus the graduation recital said Student Mark Wallace. Their recitals begin May 26, 28 June 1 and 4.

Gaston and Wallace are both former recipients of the music scholarship and said the auditions require students to prepare 10 minutes of music for the faculty and students who are awarded will be notified in a month or less.

Wallace also said the auditions have gone a long way in helping him with tuition and that the department has done a great job of getting as much money to as many students as they can.
