The Community Blood Center ran a blood drive in the Green Room (rooms 333-334) of Building 2 on Jan. 7. The drive brought almost 50 people who were willing to give the gift of life.

“We hope that, if [students] start to donate in college, they will continue to donate for the rest of their lives,” said Lori Ullmer, charge nurse for the drive.

To make that process easier, the Community Blood Center launched http://www.donortime.com where prospective and existing donors can go to schedule donation appointments and to track their donation history. The website is for use of anyone who uses the Dayton area Community Blood Center.

The website will hopefully increase the number of people who donate, which currently sits at 5 to 6 percent nationally, according to Ullmer. Other incentives might be simpler than a web site, however.

“I give for the good karma,” said Alex Daulton, a Sinclair student and donor. “Really, I give for the cookies.”
