Sinclair volleyball unplugs the Chargers

The Sinclair Tartan Pride women’s volleyball team took care of the Edison State Chargers on Sept. 17 in straight sets: 28-26, 25-21, 25-22.

In the first game of the night, Sinclair and Edison State went back and forth as the other attempted to win game one of the best-of-five series.  The Chargers built a 15-11 lead until the Tartan Pride came back with four consecutive points to tie the game.  From that point, there were 6 lead changes until Sinclair scored three straight points to win the match at 28-26.

The second game stayed close until the Sinclair women opened the game up with a 22-18 lead that would not be lost.

Game three saw the Tartan Pride start out slow. Edison State took advantage by staking a 9-5 lead.  But Sinclair bounced back and finished strong to win the third game 25-22 to complete the sweep.

Sophomore Brittney Wilburn led the way for the Tartan Pride with 11 kills while sophomores Lindsey Bruns and Rebecca Scheer committed 7 kills of their own.

“I felt they should have played better,” said Sinclair volleyball coach K.C. Gan.  “We need to play better defense.  But, I’m happy with the win.”

Freshman Jessica McCann led the team in digs with 19 and Wilburn chipped in 13 digs of her own.  Sophomore Shannon Wade had all 24 of the team’s assists.

The Sinclair women up their record to 5-5 overall and improve their conference record to 1-1 with the win over the Chargers.  Edison State fell to 2-9 overall with a conference record of 0-2.
