Oppenheimer Leads 2024 Oscar Nominations

The Academy Awards have announced the nominees for this year’s Oscars. The Christopher Nolan-directed drama “Oppenheimer” is leading the pack this award season with a whopping 14 nominations.

Cillian Murphy, who played the movie’s titular character is in good company in this year’s Best Actor category. He’s going to be facing Paul Giamatti (The Holdovers), Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction), Colman Domingo (Rustin), and Bradley Cooper (Maestro).

Fans of “Barbie” will be disappointed that Margot Robbie missed out on a Best Actress nomination. Ryan Gosling did get the nod for Best Supporting Actor. The movie did receive seven other nominations including Best Actress in a Supporting Role (America Ferrera) and Best Costume Design (Jacquline Durran).

Another “Barbenheimer” clash looks to be on the horizon as the two summer blockbusters duel for Best Picture. They won’t be alone, “American Fiction”, “The Holdovers”, “Anatomy of A Fall”, “Maestro”, “Past Lives”, “Poor Things”, and “The Zone of Interest” pose stiff competition.

No one will be surprised to see Nolan (Oppenheimer) and Martin Scorsese (Killers of the Flower Moon) in the running for Best Director. Longtime festival and critical darling Yorgos Lanthimos (Poor Things), Jonathan Glazer (The Zone of Interest), and Justine Triet (Anatomy of A Fall) make up the rest of the category’s nominees.
