Superstar wrestler John Cena announced his retirement from wrestling next year. Cena shared that he plans to participate in one more Wrestlemania before hanging up his boots.
Known for being a charismatic performer in the ring, Cena has been a mainstay at WWE for decades, filling the void left following the end of the attitude era. His run as Heavyweight Champion was a highlight for many fans, others will point to his dynamic entrances set to his own rap song.
Cena has followed in the footsteps of other legendary wrestlers by carving out a successful career in Hollywood. From a starring role in the WWE produced The Marine, his real breakout role came in Suicide Squad. His return as Peacemaker on HBO’s show of the same name only demonstrated his comedic and acting chops.
Wrestling fans shouldn’t feel too bad given how nebulous retirements are in the industry. The Rock has come back multiple times as has Brock Lesnar. Ric Flair seemingly came out of retirement every other year for a ‘final match’. It is not inconceivable that Cena’s five-knuckle shuffle will make a return at some point beyond 2025.
