From 10 – 11 a.m. Professor Jamey Dunham will present “Poetry and Creative Writing for Emotional Wellness”.

After Professor Dunham’s presentation, the event will transition to an open mic for participants who want to share “peace readings” and other original works from 11 a.m. to noon.

The National day on Writing was started in 2010 when the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) felt that writing was an important but often overlooked skill.

Now, 15 years later, Sinclair and several other schools across the nation celebrate the National Day on Writing by hosting various events and presentations.

Express your feelings through Poetry statement. NOAH SCHLARMAN

The NCTE stays active by encouraging people to express what compels them to write and why on social media with the #WhyIWrite hashtag.

With the push towards STEM programs, writing is often seen as secondary to more traditional skills. However, people take for granted how imperative writing really is to our own personal expression and shared culture.

Artistic expression is vital to each individuals well-being. From visual arts, to music, to dancing and to writing, we all have a need to be creative as it helps us understand the world around us and connect to others.

This Tuesday, connect with people in a new and refreshing way. Come to the National Day on Writing: Peace, Love, & Poetry, and discover the power of poetry and writing.
