Summer fun heats up Dayton

Students, are you looking for fun during the summer semester? In this edition of the Clarion newspaper there are listings of events happening all around the Miami Valley that are enough fun for you to bring your family along.


On Memorial Day weekend, May 22-25, Young’s Dairy Farm will have activities at their eatery and farms, the Golden Jersey Inn and their Udders and Putters miniature golf. All facilities will be open regular hours during the events.
On Friday, June 5 and Saturday June 6, Riverscape Metropark will have their new Dayton Multi Sports Festival at Riverscape.
Promising to be the biggest health and fitness festival throughout Dayton, the festival will include a 5K run on Friday, a 10k and a half marathon, multiple bike runs on Saturday and a health and fitness expo. The event will have food trucks and draft beers.
All proceeds will go towards the National MS Society and Z+ Racing.
Mick Mominee, the organizer of the event, said, “personal health is the reason for the event, but the festival is an opportunity to give people a reason to be active and educate communities on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.”
Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, said, “Health and wellness are important to all communities and that this event is a perfect way to promote it,” and approved the event. Visit multisportfest.org for more information.
On the same weekend as the Multi Sports Festival, Troy, Ohio will host their annual Strawberry Festival.
On Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7, families will be able to enjoy such activities as the Strawberry parade, a 10k run, arts and crafts vendors and food, as well as and strawberry pageants. The proceeds from the event will go toward the area’s civic and charitable groups.
On Saturday, June 20 and Sunday, June 21, the United States Air Force Thunderbirds and the Brietling Jet team will be headlining the Dayton Vectren Air show at the Dayton International Airport.
Presented by Kroger grocery stores, the event is designed to capture the imagination of audiences of all ages, and will include interactive hands on activities.
On Sunday, June 21, world renown recording artist “Weird” Al Yankovic will bring his unique style of song and comedy blend to the Fraze Pavilion as part of his Mandatory World Tour.

For anyone who may want to go bigger on family activities and is willing to spend the money, Kings Island will be opening on Saturday, April 18.
The amusement park has rides and attractions such as “The Beast,” “Banshee” and “Diamondback,” which has around 5,282 feet of drops, twists and turns at 80 miles per hour.
There is also Soak City waterpark and Dinosaurs Alive, which has 65 life-sized animatronic dinosaurs if roller coasters are not favorable.
