Members of the IT staff in the Library can be identified by the black shirts and red lanyards they wear. If you need assistance just grab their attention.

Anyone who has walked through the library at one point or another has surely seen the fearless men and women in black.

The IT staff in the library, otherwise identified as the people you can find walking around the library in black shirts, are not only easily recognizable, but they are also the ones that many students go to when needing help with a problem.

“For most people, the IT student employees are the first line of contact in the library,” said Library Director, Doug Kaylor.

With the busy atmosphere and constant commotion of students in and out of the library throughout the day, each worker manages to maintain a happy attitude and takes every opportunity that they can to provide the responses needed to answer students’ questions.

“You’re pretty much required to become a people person after working here,” said Aaron McGee, an IT help desk worker who has been at Sinclair for eight years. “Working with people and staying busy is my favorite part.”

Valencia Bruno, an Early Childhood Education major recalls a time when she got help from an IT worker.

“They were very nice and very helpful, they even showed me around the building once,”  said Bruno.

Corey Bernard, an IT worker for three years, enjoys the convenience of working in the library while also taking classes at Sinclair.

“They do a good job of working around your schedule when you have classes; the atmosphere is fun and busy,” said Bernard.

“In order to be a worker, all you have to be is computer savvy, have computer skills like typing and basic knowledge of working it,” said McGee.

Being an IT worker also means that you will not always be in the library. The teleport libraries throughout campus are also places where workers are needed.

“Anybody can be a worker and it’s convenient,” said Bernard.

There are also training sessions to learn the printers and the basic ins and outs of the computers in the library for the workers.

“They do a fabulous job and are often under recognized,” said Kaylor.

Sometimes the littlest thing can cause a speed bump in your entire day. And for one student, forgetting her password was that speed bump.

“I forgot my password and had to have it reset, they helped me with that and were very nice,” said Rachel Mabry, a Physical Therapy Assistant major.

After getting hired, the workers go through extensive training.

“After getting hired the workers go through library, student leadership, safety awareness and police training. A lot of work goes into it,” said Kaylor.
