Super Bowl XLIV is full of headlines

Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts look to win their second Super Bowl in four years.A familiar face makes a return appearance, while America is introduced to a new hero.

On Feb. 7, the Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints square off in Super Bowl XLIV in what should be a game full of storylines.

Orleans dreams

With the multiple sub-stories this matchup brings, the most inspiring has to be the city of New Orleans.

More than four years ago, New Orleans became the home to one of the largest catastrophes in the United States when Hurricane Katrina struck the city. The Louisiana Superdome, where the Saints play their home games, became an unfortunate home to thousands of citizens who lost everything during the disaster.

Now, the Saints represent more than just a conference. New Orleans, a team that never reached the Super Bowl in its 42-year history, has instilled hope to its citizens through the gift of sport and resurrected a city that is still rebuilding.

Super Manning

As an up-and-coming prospect, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning was constantly compared to his father, Archie.

The elder Manning spent 12 seasons in the NFL, 10 of which were with the Saints, and retired as the one of the lowliest starting quarterbacks in history. Though Archie was widely known as a talented player, Peyton has flipped the script on his family’s name.

After winning a record fourth Most Valuable Player award, Manning is one win away from capping off a remarkable season.

And he has to do it against daddy’s old squad.

Don’t turn away

There is no doubt the talk surrounding the Super Bowl is going to touch on the high-powered offenses of the Colts and the Saints.

The Saints are near the top of every offensive category including points and total yards. The Colts resided near the top, as well, but surprisingly the Colts were the worst rushing team in the NFL in 2009.

Although both New Orleans and Indianapolis are entertaining to watch on offense, the Saints seem to have the edge when it comes to balance.

If your favorite team isn’t participating in Super Bowl XLIV, it’s hard to root against the Saints. With the city of New Orleans behind them, quarterback Drew Brees and company has a lot to play for.

But, it’s very difficult to bet against Manning. He’s the most unstoppable force in the NFL and nobody means more to his team than him.

I’m rooting for you, New Orleans, but my money is on the Colts.
