Leave Michael alone!

Has anybody ever uttered this sentence? “Poor Michael Vick.”

Well, I just did. It’s about time Vick got some sympathy. Let’s do this!

As Vick’s 23-month sentence for dogfighting conspiracy comes to a close, more public attention has been aimed at the 28-year-old. Vick is spending the final two months of his term under home confinement.

The man served his time for the wrong he was convicted of. With the world glued to his every word, he publically apologized for committing a horrible act. Vick has yet to complain or protest any word said about the situation and rolled with the punches as his ego slipped further and further into public embarrassment.

Don’t let the media, along with the kind folks of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), add lighter fluid to the bonfire. PETA has held on to the Vick case ever since the story first broke across media outlets as it looked for every ounce of free publicity it could get its paws on.

After a recent view of peta.com (they even have updates on the Vick story), I read a statement that PETA released after Vick was sent to his Norfolk, Virginia home saying, “Until Michael Vick undergoes the rigorous psychiatric tests now available to determine his ability to experience remorse, there’s no way to establish whether he will reoffend.”

Unbelievable. So, PETA doesn’t believe Vick has the ability to feel? That he can’t gather up enough emotion to feel sorry?

I genuinely believe PETA would back a convicted child molester before ever taking a second out of their day to side with Vick. What does this man have to do to regain the public’s acceptance?

Since PETA believes he has no human rights left, should Vick hook up with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals? Maybe duet with Sarah McLachlan for a tear-jerking ad?

I’m not condoning Vick’s past decision to train and fight dogs. I love animals and I’m all for their rights. But we must remember Vick is a human being and our species makes millions of mistakes all around the world.

The man has been punished beyond his sentence. I’m channeling my inner-Chris Crocker by saying, “LEAVE MICHAEL ALONE!”
