History was witnessed in the basement of Building 8 on Jan. 20. President Barack Obama was officially sworn in at Washington D.C. and hundreds of people were at Sinclair Community College’s Presidential Inauguration party to be a part of the celebration.

Refreshments were available to all guests while everyone’s eyes were keen on the two projector screens displaying the inauguration of the 44th President of the United States. Throughout the audience, many people expressed joy and hope as they watched Obama give his inaugural speech.

The tone of the speech was stern. Obama outlined the cause of crisis in America and how the citizens need to meet the challenge head on.

“Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are real. They will not be met easily or in a short span. But know this America – they will be met,” Obama said in his inaugural address.

Becky Morean, an English composition professor, was brought to tears from the ceremony.

“I knew I was gonna cry,” said Morean. Morean admitted that she had brought tissues for the moment.

“It’s [Obama’s inauguration] just so overwhelming,” said Morean. “I never would’ve thought I’d see this in my lifetime.”

Jasmine Robinson, who organized the event, was pleased by the turnout. She described Obama’s speech as “phenomenal.”

“I think it was right on time,” said Robinson.

Ben Hill, who considers himself a “senior student,” caught a portion of the speech and said that he found it to be “inspirational.”

“It makes me feel he’s sincere,” said Hill.
