Stay Busy This April with These New Releases

The ever creeping conclusion to spring is far from the only thing we have to look forward to in April. This month has been absolutely stacked with plenty of goodies to keep us busy and more on the way. Whether you’re keeping an eye out for the next best thing to stream, read or play, we’ve got you covered.

  1. Books

April has brought with it a novel by the consistently wonderful Julia Alvarez. “The Cemetery of Untold Stories” has everything fans of the Dominican-born author have come to appreciate. She’s joined by other lit-fic greats like Amor Towels (“Table for Two”), Nick Medina (“Indian Burial Ground”), and Abby Jimenez (“Just for the Summer”) on our longlist of notable new releases.

Those of a more speculative disposition are in for a treat when “The Practice, the Horizon, and the Chain” by Sofia Samatar comes out on April 16. If David Weber’s new Honorverse novel “Toll of Honor” hasn’t taken up all your time, SA Barne’s sophomore novel “Ghost Station” is worth checking out.

But if you’re looking to fall deeper in a series as dark as Netflix’s new hit series “3 Body Problem” look no further than “A View from the Stars” by Cixin Liu. The author of the books that the streaming sensation is based on is back with a collection of short stories from Tor Books.

  1. Streaming

We all like a good show to binge, one that offers plenty of drama and action to keep us busy upstairs. Amazon Prime’s “Fallout” checks the right boxes and is certainly worth your time. Based on the hit game franchise of the same name, it has just the right combination of narrative, fun, and drama that gamers have enjoyed since 1997.

If that wasn’t enough, Netflix has an ace of their own in “Ripley” while HBO, always eager to serve us drama junkies, is throwing “The Sympathizer” into the ring.

  1. Movies

Forget “Godzilla x King Kong.”A24’s “Civil War” is the movie you don’t want to miss this month. Some might say it hits too close to home, but others, like the many reviewers giving two-thumbs up, will call it the warning America needs right now. For something more action-packed “Boy Kills World” promises to deliver more blood than most can handle.

4. Games

Gamers are also spoilt for choice this month. “Sand Land,” based on the late Akira Toriyama’s last major work, is out and full of the art style so many of us fell in love with in Dragon Ball.

The PS5 exclusive “Stellar Blade” is already making waves ahead of its April 26 release. Last but certainly not least, lovers of “Fallout”’s brand of dystopia are being given plenty of reasons to return to the Wasteland when “Fallout 4”’s long-awaited and free next-gen upgrade comes out on April 25.
