Sinclair College’s Virtual Artist Talks on Feb. 20 featured Sandra Aska, a clay sculpture artist; Andy Holliday, who creates ink prints; and Paul Rienzo, a painter who works with acrylics and various other mediums.
Each artist spent 15 minutes describing their creative process and techniques via Zoom, then opened the floor for questions.
Paul discussed the heavy influence of mythology and symbolism (both ancient and modern), favoring a still life approach in his work. Andy’s artwork involves the use of modern technology in a variety of unique ways. Sandra talked about the impact of multiple social justice movements during the mid-century, in particular feminism, which inspired several clay sculptures with multimedia additions.
All of the artists encouraged listeners not to be afraid to experiment in new ways, and to enjoy the process of making art, rather than obsessing over perfectionism.
The artwork of Sandra Aska, Andy Holliday and Paul Rienzo is on exhibit at Sinclair in Building 13 in the Burnell R. Robert Triangle Gallery and Works on Paper Gallery, now through March 13.
