{"id":9882,"date":"2014-04-07T10:07:35","date_gmt":"2014-04-07T15:07:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=9882"},"modified":"2014-05-20T13:16:18","modified_gmt":"2014-05-20T18:16:18","slug":"graduating-student-art-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2014\/04\/07\/graduating-student-art-show\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduating student art show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sinclair Community College will host the graduating student art show April 14 through May 1.<\/p>\n<p>According to Gallery Coordinator Pat McClelland, the exhibit is the culmination of the portfolio developing class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a seminar of professionalism,\u201d he said. \u201cThe students decide on what pieces of art to display.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McClelland said the exhibit will be very diverse and reflect many different art styles, including paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture and ceramics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis particular show is going to be more a big collaboration of a bunch of student work \u2014 it will be really different from an individual show,\u201d Virgil Clark, a Fine Art major said. \u201cIt\u2019s a great chance to see art\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>There will be 20 seniors represented in the Graduating student Art Show. The art show will feature the senior\u2019s best work and will be a reflection of the student\u2019s time here at Sinclair, according to McClelland.<\/p>\n<p>Fine Art major Alexandra Massullo said the goal when submitting pieces to present in the art show is demonstrating your evolution as an artist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou select the pieces that you really gravitate towards,\u201d Massullo said. \u201cI\u2019m doing large-scale drawings \u2014 they all have a common theme, which is controversy [and] challenging the status quo. I target certain issues that are personal to me and bring them to light.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fine Art major Whitney Manfreda said her art varies between paintings and drawings, where she is able to show small details.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy work [is] mixed, I do painting and drawings \u2014 it is everyday objects but more focused on the surface,\u201d she said. \u201cI bring out the small details that people may overlook \u2014 they are mostly based on organic forms of food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clark said his art is centered around abstract oil painting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m doing these abstract oil paintings that find the line between realism and abstraction,\u201d Clark said. \u201cMost of them are based off of realism then I abstract the subject matter\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The student reception will take place on May 1. The event is free and will have appetizers available in the art gallery. A jazz band will also be playing during the reception.<\/p>\n<p>The gallery is located in Building 13 and will be open Monday through Thursday at 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Saturday 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sinclair Community College will host the graduating student art show April 14 through May 1.
