Associate Professor Luis Gonzalez will be teaching a course titled “The Philosophy of Love, Relationships and Sex” during the Spring 2009 quarter.\u00a0 He hopes that with this class, students will understand the depth and potential that sexuality has in their lives.<\/p>\n

“If we change our attitudes towards sexuality, then we can have healthier relationships,” says Gonzalez.<\/p>\n

Sexuality is not an uncommon theme in philosophy or religion, according to Gonzalez.\u00a0 Both ethics and religion shape how people view sexual morality, he says.\u00a0 He believes that everyone thinks they have something to say about love and sex.<\/p>\n

“When you talk about sex, people either shy away because they’ve deemed it taboo, or they’re very superficial with it,” says Gonzalez.<\/p>\n

In the class students will discuss love, relationships, sexuality and the erotic.\u00a0 Gonzalez hopes to have a discussion-based class that addresses facts, opinions and questions relating to the subject.\u00a0 Students will study literature, art and film while in the class.
\nGonzalez wants students to learn more than what love or sex is.\u00a0 He wants students to understand the subject’s importance and meaning in their daily lives.<\/p>\n

“The science of love, relationships, sex and the erotic is what I want to get at-the depth, the complexity, the psychological complexity,” says Gonzalez.<\/p>\n

As of Feb. 23 the class had 27 students registered, according to Gonzalez.\u00a0 If the class is successful, he hopes to teach it again.<\/p>\n
