{"id":9072,"date":"2013-05-02T15:00:58","date_gmt":"2013-05-02T20:00:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=9072"},"modified":"2013-05-02T15:00:58","modified_gmt":"2013-05-02T20:00:58","slug":"spring-concert-to-be-held-at-sinclair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2013\/05\/02\/spring-concert-to-be-held-at-sinclair\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Concert to be held at Sinclair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Music Department at Sinclair Community College will be hosting a Spring Choral Concert on April 27, featuring the Men\u2019s Ensemble, Sinclair Singers, Contemporary Gospel Ensemble and Vocal Jazz Ensemble.<\/p>\n<p>The concert offers music for all, from classical to rock \u2019n\u2019 roll, with many genres in between, and finishing with opera and musical theatre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe concert is a big variety,\u201d Daniel Greene, Music professor and concert director said.<\/p>\n<p>The concert will begin with the Men\u2019s Ensemble. Their performance will consist of songs that \u201cbring out the feeling of spring,\u201d including two musicals from the British composer, Thomas Morely.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[These] will be songs of spring, youth and love,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the overall theme is about ladies of the court and ultimate love. They plan to achieve this by accompanying a few of the pieces with lady soloists, including a cello soloist and a french horn player.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[We want] the illusion of springtime,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n<p>The concert will continue with pieces sung by the Gospel Ensemble. Greene said they will be singing songs to \u201cuplift your spirits\u201d and get people dancing along with the music.<\/p>\n<p>Following the intermission, the Spring Choral Concert will be introducing a new addition to the Music Department: the Sinclair Opera and Musical Theatre Workshop.<\/p>\n<p>Greene described the Theatre Workshop as singing and acting at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBasically, it\u2019s a chorus line [and] acting interaction,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n<p>They will be performing famous pieces such as \u201cThe Magic Flute\u201d by Mozart, as well as scenes from \u201cJesus Christ Superstar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dawn Stone, the Co-Director of Opera Scenes and former Broadway, performer will do the narration.<\/p>\n<p>The Chorale is not just comprised of students. There are people from the community who have also decided to participate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Chorale is community and college related,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n<p>He believes this concert will encompass enough variety for anyone to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re not going to find it anywhere else in Dayton,\u201d Greene said.<\/p>\n<p>The Spring Choral Concert will be held on Friday, April 26 at 8 p.m. in the Blair Hall Theatre.
