For students who don\u2019t have the money to travel around the world but would still like to experience some culture, the international series may be of interest.<\/p>\n

Wendy Hockenberry will be presenting the next series topic on Germany, where she lived for seven years.<\/p>\n

\u201c[I want] to help students with life-long learning,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Hockenberry said her goal is to familiarize students with nations that they haven\u2019t seen or visited.<\/p>\n

She will be presenting her experience with an open format of PowerPoint, pictures, discussion and a “show and tell” of things she has brought back with her to America.<\/p>\n

Hockenberry hopes to have videos as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want them to understand what Germany is all about, how old it is,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Hockenberry said she has spent a lot of time in history. It was her idea to bring in a live acting aspect to the series, by inviting someone from the Society of Creative Anachronism.<\/p>\n

Hockenberry said this is described as people who \u201cdig in” their past and re-enact history. She hopes to get a gentleman from the Society of Creative Anachronisms\u2019 to preform, but due to the time of the series, he may not be available.<\/p>\n

Besides the presentation, there will be authentic German food for students to try. One of the three items chosen is a German appetizer called rolladen, which is a pickle, wrapped in thinly sliced steak.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want them to expand their thinking,\u201d Hockenberry said.<\/p>\n

The international series on Germany will be held in Building 8 Stage Area from noon to 1 p.m. on April 17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
