On April 13, Sinclair Community College\u2019s Theatre Department will hold talent scholarship auditions for Theatre Performance and Theatre Technology majors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are talent-based scholarships for students who are majoring in either Theatre Performance or Theatre Technology,\u201d Patti Celek, publicity specialist for the Theatre Department said.<\/p>\n
Before the audition, Theatre Performance majors are expected to have either two contrasting monologues, or one song and one monologue memorized.<\/p>\n
Theatre Technology majors should bring a portfolio or be prepared to discuss interests and experiences that they have had in theatre if a portfolio is not available.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you don\u2019t have [a portfolio], that doesn\u2019t mean you shouldn\u2019t talk to the faculty about your interests in theatre and why you are interested,\u201d Celek said. \u201cIt is like a job interview every time, showing what they have done.\u201d<\/p>\n
Any experience the student has had in theatre, as well as pictures to explain, can be beneficial to the Theatre Technology major.<\/p>\n
All majors who go to the auditions are expected to have a resume.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you are a performance major, you should have some kind of headshot,\u201d Celek said. \u201cThat doesn\u2019t mean it needs to be a professional headshot, it just needs to be something to identify yourself with.\u201d<\/p>\n
Celek also said that each scholarship given could vary in what it covers for the student.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey can be very lucrative. It can be anything from a partial scholarship to a full scholarship,\u201d Celek said. \u201cI\u2019ve known them to even give a scholarship for books if funds are available.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said that with proper preparation, the student auditioning has a good chance of getting a scholarship.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy advice is to be prepared, and to treat it like it\u2019s an entrance audition,\u201d Celek said. \u201cDon\u2019t be afraid to try, this is something that is available to you \u2014 nothing ventured, nothing gained.\u201d<\/p>\n
The auditions start at 1 p.m. and according to Celek, they take about five auditions per hour.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are looking for people who have passion to do theatre,\u201d Celek said. \u201cWe want to make them feel comfortable so they can give their best audition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Those who participate will receive complimentary tickets to Sinclair\u2019s Theatre performance of \u201cGodspell.\u201d<\/p>\n
