The Juried Art Show at Sinclair Community College gives Fine Art students an opportunity to showcase the work being produced in their program.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt demonstrates the types of concepts, issues and materials used by the Art Program here,\u201d Gallery Coordinator Pat McClelland said. \u201cIt\u2019s an opportunity for the students to have actual professional experience exhibiting their work.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fine Art students can submit work they have created in up to seven different categories if they choose. The categories include painting, printmaking, drawing, collage, photography, sculpture and ceramics. However, only two entries in each category are allowed.<\/p>\n
Students can submit work created anytime within the last year if they have taken an art class at Sinclair during that time.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a competitive process and only about half of the work submitted gets in the show.\u201d McClelland said. \u201cIt gives them a chance to see that they don\u2019t always get selected.\u201d<\/p>\n
The work submitted that appears in the show will be selected by an outside juror.<\/p>\n
The juror this year is Charles Kanwischer, who teaches painting and drawing. He received his MFA degree from Yale University in 1987 for painting and printmaking.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a way to develop professionalism,\u201d McClelland said. \u201cFor students who get into the show, it becomes a line on their resume that they had work exhibited in a professional gallery.\u201d<\/p>\n
All the work that is submitted must be ready to hang.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe work has to be exhibition ready,\u201d McClelland said. \u201cIt has to be framed like it would be going into a professional gallery.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Annual Exhibition will be on display from March 20 through April 9.<\/p>\n
\u201c[The exhibit] is open to the public and anyone can come,\u201d McClelland said.<\/p>\n
An announcement for the show is sent out to those on the gallery mailing list. To get on the list, send your name and street address to McClelland via email.<\/p>\n
McClelland has been gallery coordinator for seven years and enjoys the diversity that comes with each show.<\/p>\n
