Student Leadership Development and the Student Government Association will be co-sponsoring the Love and Hip Hop event and a Talent Showcase on Feb. 14.<\/p>\n
The Love and Hip Hop event will feature speaker John Rogers III.<\/p>\n
According to the event\u2019s flyer, he will be speaking about the impact of hip hop music, romantic love, biology, urban and suburban culture, sub-cultures, sociopolitical status, psychology and economic influences.<\/p>\n
\u201c[Rogers] is going to talk about the history of hip hop and how it impacts culture today,\u201d Brandon Whitehorn, president of the SGA said.<\/p>\n
Dominique Starr, graduate assistant, added \u201cAnd how women are portrayed in hip hop, so it\u2019s going to talk about relationships as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rogers will speak from 12 to 2 p.m. Afterword, SGA will be hosting a Talent Showcase.<\/p>\n
\u201cEssentially it\u2019s like open mic,\u201d Starr said.<\/p>\n
There is currently no deadline to sign up to perform in the Talent Showcase and each performer will have a maximum of 10 minutes to perform, Starr said.<\/p>\n
\u201c[It\u2019s] like a Sinclair Community College talent show, it\u2019s more a talent show to help display talent within Sinclair,\u201d Whitehorn said.<\/p>\n

The Talent Showcase will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. and clubs will also be fundraising during the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo you can pick up your wooden roses, your international treats or desserts,\u201d Whitehorn said.<\/p>\n
Some of the clubs taking part in the fundraising are The National Society of Leadership and Success, African American Culture Club, Toastmasters, Choral Club, Artist Collective and A Culturally Educated Sisterhood.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
