The college of Mount St. Joseph is partnering with Sinclair to offer a Multicultural Special Education program at the Courseview Campus this January.<\/p>\n
TEAM-MSE (multicultural special education) started in 2004 and is a blended program that is available online and in the classroom every other Saturday at the Courseview Campus for people who want to teach children with special needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis program is for individuals who want a license in Special Education or want to teach children with special needs,\u201d Clarissa Rosas, director of\u00a0 Multicultural Special Education at Mount St. Joseph said.<\/p>\n
The TEAM-MSE program prepares students to work with children with special needs who come from different cultural backgrounds. The program is also aimed at those who have already been through school and are looking for another outlet.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose who already teach may be looking for a second career to pursue within teaching to do something different,\u201d Rosas said.<\/p>\n
TEAM-MSE is partnering with Sinclair because of the demographic of people that attend and to help promote the program in the Warren County area, Rosas said.<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents being aware and seeing the career pathway that is available to them is our purpose,\u201d Interim Assistant Dean Charlotte Wharton said.<\/p>\n
The program is accelerated for those seeking their master\u2019s degree and is completed in five semesters.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe try to keep the classes small \u2014 we would like to have at least 15 enroll and we have 10 right now,\u201d Rosas said. \u201cSpecial Education is a tough field and licensed educators are needed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Upon completion of the program, a Master of Arts degree is obtained with a major in Education and a license in Special Education for grades K-12.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are really excited about the partnership,\u201d Wharton said. \u201cWe are interested in staying local and making it convenient for the student.\u201d<\/p>\n
