Sinclair Community College\u2019s Marketing 295 class not only learns the art of good promotion \u2013 they also help the community.<\/p>\n
Students in the class were split into two groups and assigned a non-profit organization to represent for a project. The goal is to not only learn marketing in a real world environment, but also to help spread the word about these non-profits.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese events we throw are just to get people aware of the organization,\u201d said Marketing student Mary Burnside.<\/p>\n
Burnside\u2019s group was assigned the organization Towards Independence Inc., which represents developmentally and mentally handicapped people in the greater Dayton area.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur mission is to help them live the fullest life possible,\u201d said Jodi Hill, Toward Independence\u2019s development officer.<\/p>\n
Hill is a former Sinclair student and speaks highly of her experience with the teams putting on the events.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have been very professional and good to work with,\u201d said Hill. \u201cThey bring a lot of enthusiasm.\u201d<\/p>\n
Burnside\u2019s team also includes: Lyndsey Wulfeck, Sara Moore, Monica Willis, Lauren Hart and Stacie Teague.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur main job is to promote their Walk for Independence,\u201d said Wulfeck.<\/p>\n
This year will mark Toward Independence\u2019s fourth annual walk, which will be held on Saturday, May 16.<\/p>\n
The marketing group held a benefit at C{Space, located at 20 N. Jefferson Street on Feb. 21. The event included live music from local artists Night Sky Transit, Good English and Tony Herdman. Ronin Ichi served as DJ for the event, which will also featured the break dance group Circle Nerdz.<\/p>\n
The performers donated their talents to the cause free of charge.<\/p>\n
