On Sept. 26 students will have good reason and the chance to interact with local police officers. On the plaza of Building 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Sinclair Police Department will be demonstrating various police exercises at the 25th Annual Safety Expo.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sinclair Police Lieutenant Scott Fowler, said that the event will be a fun and interesting way to show students, faculty and staff what keeps Sinclair a safe environment year-round.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cWe really bring your hometown police department to you,\u201d Fowler said. \u201cThis is a positive situation where people can go up and talk to officers one on one.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be a variety of tactical demonstrations within the four-hour time slot some of which include rappelling from one of Sinclair\u2019s highest buildings and K-9 unit demonstrations. Fowler said that the dogs most likely would be preforming drug searches on volunteers.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt just depends on what dog shows up,\u201d Fowler said. \u201cFor example if someone would volunteer their book bag, an officer would plant drugs in their book bag and the dog will find it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition, there will be a variety of police vehicles and specialty cars on site. Two of the most notable cars include replica of the 1966 Batmobile and a replica of the sheriff\u2019s car from the Dukes of Hazzard TV show. The Batmobile is owned by Carl\u2019s Body Shop, and is valued at around $200,000.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Dukes of Hazzard car is owned by Sinclair\u2019s own Sam McConnell, who serves Sinclair as the social media specialist for Marketing.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
