Sinclair Medical Assistant students organized a booth to serve the student community.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Sinclair’s Student Medical Assistant Association gave free check-ups at the “What’s Love Got To Do With It” event held in Building 8 on Feb. 11.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Students that participated received a card with information on their vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, respirations, height and weight.<\/p>\n

The class of 10 second-year medical assistant students organized their booth as a graded service-learning project, providing display signs, gift bags, and cookies.<\/p>\n

“We decided to do something with the fair because it was heart health month,” said Medical Assistant student Nicole Miller.<\/p>\n

The first 20 participants that got all five signs checked received a gift bag with sugar-free candy and cookies, an information packet on how to read food labels, a free month to Curves and a stuffed animal.<\/p>\n

“We wanted to serve our community by offering a skill that they have been mastering during the program,” said adjunct Medical Assistant instructor Frances Williams.\u00a0 “It’s vital for people to know their main numbers.”<\/p>\n

Williams said the American Heart Association and the Surgeon General encourages people to be aware of their vitals.<\/div>\n

“(Medical Assistant students) wanted to provide that for the community because students don’t often get a screening like this,” said Williams of her class.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
