{"id":6592,"date":"2011-07-07T16:11:59","date_gmt":"2011-07-07T21:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=6592"},"modified":"2011-07-12T12:32:21","modified_gmt":"2011-07-12T17:32:21","slug":"sinclair-twins-skate-at-kings-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2011\/07\/07\/sinclair-twins-skate-at-kings-island\/","title":{"rendered":"Sinclair twins skate at Kings Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brooke and Beth Johnson-Johns appear to be typical Sinclair Community<br \/>\nCollege students.<\/p>\n<p>But they have a hidden talent.<\/p>\n<p>Brooke and Beth are both ice performers at Kings Island performing in <em>Snoopy Rocks! on Ice<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do three shows a day, every day but Wednesday, and four shows on Saturdays,\u201d Brooke said.\u00a0 \u201cThe show generally runs 30-35 minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBrooke plays Linus and I play Sally, and we both perform as ensemble,\u201d Beth said. \u201cEnsemble is basically, the backup dancer to a singer in a concert.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Linus and Sally are characters from the cartoon <em>Peanuts <\/em>created by Charles Schultz.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is difficult skating with the costume on because it distorts your vision. You have to look through the mouth to see so it\u2019s a little difficult,\u201d Beth said. \u201c But even with the costume on Brooke can still do an axel, which I think is pretty impressive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The twins started out at Kings Island in a show called Endless Summer, which featured the characters from Scooby Doo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were lucky this year because most of the cast was returning from last year\u2019s show,\u201d Brooke said.<\/p>\n<p>Building chemistry on the ice with the other performers all depends on repetition and practice, according to Brooke.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe started ice skating at 8, but initially we were artistic roller skaters at age 2. From that, we made the decision to transfer over to ice skating because there is more you can do with ice skating than artistic roller skating,\u201d Brooke said.<\/p>\n<p>The twins have a passion for skating, but both expressed that college has reduced their time to ice skate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we were in high school, we skated for about two hours a day. But, since we started college it has been a lot less,\u201d Brooke said.<\/p>\n<p>The twins used to compete, but due to specific rules and regulations they cannot compete and perform in shows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerforming in shows is a lot more fun than competing because you can be yourself. I like to see the reaction of the audience and it helps you break out of your shell,\u201d Brooke said.<\/p>\n<p>While the twins know that their education is a top priority, they do have aspirations to perform on a bigger stage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love to go and travel with Disney on ice, or Holiday on ice and travel all around and do shows,\u201d Brooke said.<\/p>\n<p>This is their third year performing at King\u2019s Island and the <em>Snoopy Rocks! on Ice <\/em>show runs from June 4-Aug. 14.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brooke and Beth Johnson-Johns appear to be typical Sinclair Community College students.
