{"id":6552,"date":"2011-05-31T12:00:35","date_gmt":"2011-05-31T17:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=6552"},"modified":"2011-05-31T10:46:57","modified_gmt":"2011-05-31T15:46:57","slug":"set-goals-to-stay-in-shape-for-a-healthy-lifestyle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2011\/05\/31\/set-goals-to-stay-in-shape-for-a-healthy-lifestyle\/","title":{"rendered":"Set goals to stay in shape for a healthy lifestyle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sinclair Community College Athletic Director Jack Giambrone believes working out is important.<\/p>\n<p>He knows you can do it, too.<\/p>\n<p>With summer coming up soon and most students not attending classes, starting an exercise plan could be beneficial.\u00a0 Giambrone, who said he loves working out and being active, provided some tips for students, staff or faculty interested in getting fit.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Set a routine for yourself<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Setting a daily routine for exercise can be beneficial, according to Giambrone.\u00a0 He suggests 30-60 minutes of activity five days a week, but anything will help.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery little bit helps,\u201d Giambrone said.\u00a0 \u201cMaybe, if you enjoy playing golf, maybe you go to the driving range.\u00a0 Find out what you like to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Being outside and doing yardwork can serve as exercise too, Giambrone said.\u00a0 He stresses that being active is the key.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Daily, weekly and monthly goals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Setting a goal for yourself can serve as motivation to succeed, according to Giambrone.\u00a0 Goals of all different varieties are valuable.<\/p>\n<p>A daily goal could be something as simple as taking a walk around the block; a weekly goal could be doing that multiple times over the course of a week; and a monthly goal could be shedding a few pounds, according to Giambrone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone\u2019s goal is different, too,\u201d Giambrone said.\u00a0 \u201cWe all have different bodies and different expectations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to prepare for a workout<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Giambrone said that stretching for a walk around the block might be unnecessary, but any strenuous activity requires stretching before.<\/p>\n<p>With the summer heat rolling in, dehydration is a threat.<\/p>\n<p>According to WebMD.com, symptoms of dehydration include increased thirst, dry mouth, weakness, dizziness, confusion, inability to sweat and sluggishness (and potentially, fainting).<\/p>\n<p>Giambrone said that taking a water bottle with you on a workout is pivotal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHydration is absolutely critical,\u201d Giambrone said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How Jack stays in shape<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Giambrone said he enjoys running, weight lifting and golf.\u00a0 Over the summers, with Sinclair not as active as the other seasons, he goes to football camps.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year, I\u2019ll be working with the Miami Dolphins football camp,\u201d Giambrone said.<\/p>\n<p>For additional tips, Giambrone recommends that students visit nutrition.gov and mypyramid.gov for nutrition help.\u00a0 Giambrone said he is not a nutritionist but believes those websites can help students with what they eat.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sinclair Community College Athletic Director Jack Giambrone believes working out is important.
