{"id":6544,"date":"2011-05-24T11:00:33","date_gmt":"2011-05-24T16:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=6544"},"modified":"2011-05-23T12:26:47","modified_gmt":"2011-05-23T17:26:47","slug":"tartan-pride-fall-in-regional-to-close-out-the-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2011\/05\/24\/tartan-pride-fall-in-regional-to-close-out-the-year\/","title":{"rendered":"Tartan Pride fall in regional to close out the year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When they needed them the most, the Tartan Pride couldn\u2019t muster the runs to survive.<\/p>\n<p>The 2011 Sinclair baseball season ended with a 5-1 loss to OCCAC rival Cuyahoga Community College, a game where the Pride had only 5 hits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just didn\u2019t swing the bats,\u201d coach Steve Dintaman said.<\/p>\n<p>The regional opened with a tough game against Muskegon Community College.\u00a0 Going into the game, Dintaman said he told the team to pitch around Ched Gaskin, a powerful bat in the Muskegon lineup.<br \/>\nTartan Pride starter Austin Pressly quickly allowed what Dintaman called two \u201cseeing-eye singles,\u201d putting two men on base for Gaskin in the top of the first inning with no outs.<\/p>\n<p>Dintaman said that Pressly left a fastball over the plate to Geskin, and before they knew it, the Pride were down 3-0.<\/p>\n<p>From that point on, Pressly allowed only one more run.\u00a0 For the game, he threw seven innings, allowed eight hits, four runs (all earned), walked two and struck out four.\u00a0 Dintaman called the start great.<\/p>\n<p>The offense managed one run in the third inning and two more in the seventh, but it wasn\u2019t enough.\u00a0 They fell 4-3.<\/p>\n<p>That loss put Sinclair in the loser\u2019s bracket, and later that day Sinclair faced Jackson Community College.\u00a0 The Pride sent Jeremiah Kerns to the mound.<\/p>\n<p>The offense only managed one run for Kerns, but that was all he needed.\u00a0 The Pride won 1-0.<\/p>\n<p>Dintaman said Kerns called it the best start of his career, and Dintaman said he won the game for them with his three-hit shutout of Jackson.\u00a0 Kerns allowed six total base runners and struck out 10.<\/p>\n<p>The Pride wouldn\u2019t play their next game until Monday due to rainouts.\u00a0 They ended up facing Cuyahoga, and lost 5-1 to end the season.<\/p>\n<p>Dintaman said he might look back at the season, once the moment has passed, and feel disappointment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a great group,\u201d Dintaman said.\u00a0 \u201cWe easily could have done more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Pride finish with a record of 34-15.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ll go down as a team that gave us an OCCAC championship,\u201d Dintaman said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When they needed them the most, the Tartan Pride couldn\u2019t muster the runs to survive.
