{"id":6478,"date":"2011-05-09T11:00:03","date_gmt":"2011-05-09T16:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/?p=6478"},"modified":"2011-05-09T09:58:55","modified_gmt":"2011-05-09T14:58:55","slug":"clarion-consensus-r-e-s-p-e-c-t","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sinclairclarion.com\/home\/tartan-news\/2011\/05\/09\/clarion-consensus-r-e-s-p-e-c-t\/","title":{"rendered":"Clarion Consensus: R-e-s-p-e-c-t"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The Clarion Consensus is an opinion column written by the staff of your Sinclair newspaper.\u00a0 Each week, the Clarion staff chooses a topic to debate and comes to agreement. <\/em>Respect is so easy to spell\u2013it\u2019s only seven words\u2013and yet so many find it difficult to understand.<\/p>\n<p>Walking down the hallway, we see countless people not opening or holding doors for others. Why do we care?\u00a0 Because every action we take sends a message; just like when you don\u2019t hold a door for someone.<\/p>\n<p>So, what\u2019s the message? <em> I don\u2019t respect you enough to hold this door open for you. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you think that\u2019s rude or inconsiderate\u2013well, we agree with you!<\/p>\n<p>Respect is just a simple word, but some of us have teachers that think it is okay to treat their students like they are not smart enough to learn. If students knew everything, we definitely wouldn\u2019t need teachers. But we\u00a0 are here at college to do what, again?\u00a0 Learn!<\/p>\n<p>If the student is not picking up the material quick enough, belittling them is not going to help.<\/p>\n<p>Respect is just a seven-letter word and yet, we see all the time men degrading women or women degrading men. Yelling the other\u2019s name as they walk down the hallway.<\/p>\n<p>To that we say\u2014 if a girl or guy is not answering your yelling, they are not interested. Why embarrass yourself and keep yelling?\u00a0 And better yet, why keep shouting in my ear!<\/p>\n<p>Respect matters outside of Sinclair, too.\u00a0 How about respect for your environment?<\/p>\n<p>Forget global warming\u2013we have a different fish to try.\u00a0 Is there ever a good reason to litter?\u00a0 Must be, because people do it constantly.\u00a0 In parking lots, alongside roads, at the park, everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019d think the penalities associated with littering would stop people.\u00a0 According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources\u2019 website, littering \u201cis a serious offense, punishable by fines of up to $500 and 60 days in jail.\u201d\u00a0 Did that get your attention?<\/p>\n<p>Respect is missing, and we don\u2019t know where to find it. But we offer this advice: find the respect in you because some people forget that respect goes a long way. That door that wasn\u2019t held open could have changed someone\u2019s day.\u00a0 Or, if you didn\u2019t litter, think of the money you saved!<\/p>\n<p>With so much going on in the world, we think it\u2019s important to live a happy life at home, work and school.<\/p>\n<p>Respect makes everyone\u2019s day better.\u00a0 With stress a factor in everyone\u2019s life, no matter if you are a professor or a student, why make it worse for yourself and others?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Clarion Consensus is an opinion column written by the staff of your Sinclair newspaper.\u00a0 Each week, the Clarion staff chooses a topic to debate and comes to agreement.
