In response to some, most famously Donald Trump, questioning whether or not he was born in this country, President Obama released his long-form birth certificate.\u00a0 It agrees with Obama\u2019s claims that he was born in Hawaii, and that his birthdate is August 4, 1961.<\/p>\n
So, that\u2019s over, right?\u00a0 Maybe.\u00a0 Maybe not.\u00a0 If this isn\u2019t over\u2014if some still question where Obama was born\u2014that poses a few questions.<\/p>\n
First off, do you simply ignore facts because you fear for corruption or dishonesty, or simply because the facts don\u2019t agree with your idea?\u00a0 If we are looking at government facts, corruption must be a concern, whether you agree with what they are presenting or not.<\/p>\n
The most famous example of people not believing what the government \u201creports\u201d is probably the investigation into the assassination of President Kennedy.\u00a0 In case you don\u2019t know, the Warren Commission\u2013tasked with deciding what happened in the assassination\u2013declared that Lee Harvey Oswald, Kennedy\u2019s killer, acted alone.<\/p>\n
And, as soon as that was announced, everyone ate a tablespoon of salt.\u00a0 People have large, wide-ranging ideas for who killed Kennedy; we won\u2019t get into those.\u00a0 The simple fact is, people, by and large, did not agree with what the Warren Commission said.<\/p>\n
Who can you trust?\u00a0 Recently in the Clarion<\/em>, Sinclair\u2019s president said that raising tuition might be necessary in order to maintain quality.\u00a0 Do you trust him when he says that?<\/p>\n You might have no reason to believe he\u2019s dishonest… but he\u2019s in charge, and we are skeptical of people in charge.\u00a0 We are a harshly cynical society.\u00a0 But, we constantly see news about corruption and dishonesty from our leaders.<\/p>\n We are, in a sense, trained to be that way.<\/p>\n How many politicians have been elected as the \u201cfamily values candidate\u201d only to end up having a sex scandal?\u00a0 We have politicians who make decisions–important decisions–on specific matters while receiving campaign donations from companies who work in the specified field.\u00a0 Is that okay?<\/p>\n Perhaps all of this is a reminder to trust in your family, friends and religion.\u00a0 They are what ultimately matters, anyway.<\/p>\n Maybe putting so much faith in a politician is inherently dangerous.\u00a0 Even though countless advertisements try to tell us differently, we don\u2019t really know those people.<\/p>\n If there can be any lesson here, it\u2019s do your research.\u00a0 Don\u2019t believe what you are told.\u00a0 Look things up.\u00a0 Having your own opinion is worth the effort.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In response to some, most famously Donald Trump, questioning whether or not he was born in this country, President Obama released his long-form birth certificate.\u00a0 It agrees with Obama\u2019s claims that he was born in Hawaii, and that his birthdate is August 4, 1961.
