Sinclair Community College first pushed its smokers out of campus buildings.<\/p>\n
Then, they gave smokers a place to go with smoke.\u00a0 Sinclair designated smoking areas with signs and ashtrays to dispose of cigarette butts.<\/p>\n
Smoking on Sinclair\u2019s campus is permitted only in designated areas.\u00a0 These areas are marked clearly, but some students, like Jeff Smith, ignore them.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not a second-hand citizen,\u201d Smith said.\u00a0 \u201cI smoke where I want to.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve taken to smoking, or finishing my smoke, on the way to class,\u201d Brian Olinger, student, said.\u00a0 \u201cYou may find me next to an entrance if I have class.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, non-smokers don\u2019t always appreciate that.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it is rude not to smoke in the designated areas,\u201d Sean Anderson said.\u00a0 \u201cEspecially when you are walking in and out of buildings, you have to walk through a cloud of smoke.\u00a0 The smell sticks on your clothing just walking through it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anderson said he liked the idea of Campus Police handing out tickets for those caught smoking in non-designated areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would feel happy if they started ticketing people,\u201d Anderson said.\u00a0 \u201cI feel if they\u2019re going to have a law they need to enforce it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another non-smoking student, Zachary Hildenbrandt, said he didn\u2019t like seeing all the butts around campus.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood idea or not, cigarette butts are all over Sinclair,\u201d Hildenbrant said.\u00a0 \u201cThe cigarette butts are an unwelcome sight.\u201d<\/p>\n
Olinger has an answer for both the non-smokers, and it\u2019s one of kindness.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople simply need to begin considering each other kindly,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cThe government, or school officials, shouldn\u2019t need to regulate courtesy.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
