Sinclair Community College\u2019s Huber Heights Learning Center (HHLC) is hosting the \u201cJazz and Art at the HHLC\u201d event April 21 from 6 to 8 p.m in the lobby.<\/p>\n
Art from Sinclair associate art professor Kevin Harris will be shown, and it\u2019s an event for local businesses in the area to come and meet, according to Katherine Lewis, administrative assistant.\u00a0 It is also free.<\/p>\n
Lewis said the event aims to add culture.\u00a0 This is the fourth year the Learning Center has hosted it, and people are encouraged to bring a camera.<\/p>\n
There will be \u201cupscale refreshments,\u201d including an olive bar, hummus with peta bread and a veggie tray, according to Lewis.<\/p>\n
Harris said he will show selections from his previous work.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe work presented will include selections from my solo exhibition compositions that was held at Sinclair\u2019s Triangle Gallery in January and my two person exhibition, Eyeful, held with James Pate at Visceral Gallery in February,\u201d Harris said via email.\u00a0 \u201cImages will include Parisian street-scapes, Bahamian island scenes and jazz club sketches.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harris said that he takes a lot of things into consideration to make an exhibition successful, including selecting the right pieces; framing the art or making the art suitable to be shown before then installing a frame, if necessary.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe next challenge is to install the exhibition so that each piece is easily viewable.\u00a0 That way, the work blends with the exhibition space, and each individual piece blends with the whole, in hopes of creating a stimulating visual experience,\u201d Harris said.<\/p>\n
Dawayne Kirkman, manager of the HHLC and the Englewood Learning Center, said he tries to set up events in order to provide a social atmosphere.<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents who are academically and socially satisfied tend to retain,\u201d Kirkman said.<\/p>\n
Because Sinclair is a commuter school, students often take their class and leave.\u00a0 In a four year college with dorms, it is much easier to reach students socially, according to Kirkman.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is imperative to support student connections to campus through creative means,\u201d Kirkman said.\u00a0 \u201cWe want this to be more than just a place to come to class.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
